OtterSpace Blackout Curtains: Review

Any time someone asks for blackout solutions for their child’s room, these are almost always their stipulation:

  • Total black out (duh, yes)

  • Not permanent/ability to let in natural light easily

And friends, I’m happy to report that a product finally fits the bill!

We’ve had the OtterSpace Blackout Curtains up since July and have zero complaints. They are super easy to install, they’re portable and can be used whenever you’re traveling, and they are absolutely fully black out.

The OtterSpace Blackout layer can be utilized with your own existing curtains or you can bundle their blackout layer with their curtains. Using their curtains or yours does not affect the functionality of the blackout layer. They package it all together with the hardware you need to hang them more “permanently” (ie on a rod) or you can just use command strips for the magnetic part whenever you travel (or you’re at home).

We did take our window blinds down to install the blackout layer, but you can utilize the curtains with blinds as well. I have not tested this though, so I cannot speak to it. I’ll attach the description of doing that below!

So once they’re installed, the blackout layer blocks out every bit of light that could come in around the edges. Whenever you want to let natural light in, you just pop off the blackout layer from the magnets to hang like normal curtains and when you’re ready for sleep, just move the blackout layer back to their place on the magnets.

It’s really that simple (and yes, seems too good to be true if you’ve been looking for this kind of solution for a long time).

I am not an affiliate for this product, but I did secure a 10% discount code for you if you want to purchase your own; it’s HEAVENSENTSLEEP10.

I pulled the corner magnet up so you can see what it looks like whenever light bleeds through

You can very clearly see that no light is coming around any of the edges!
