How to Schedule Appointments around Nap Time

In my entire parenting “career”, I think I’ve only been able to schedule ONE well check in advance that didn’t end up falling during a child’s nap time. I’ve got a pretty bad track record 😂 but that’s probably because I didn’t write out this “safe” appointment times ahead of time like I’m doing for you! So make sure you bookmark this post and reference it before you make your next appointment.

For the purposes of this resource, I’ll base everything on a 7am wake up time. If you wake up earlier or later, just adjust the times written below to fit your schedule.

Don’t forget to factor in any travel time! If you’re going to be in the car for 30+ minutes, it may be more beneficial to plan for the nap to happen on the way there or the way back. To read more about naps on the go and how to manipulate the schedule, check out this naps on the go blog.

(*The ranges I give you below are the time frames I’d schedule an appointment during, but also keep in mind typical appointment time as well since every provider can be different!)

If your child is on 4 naps (this is usually around 2.5-4 months of age):

  • 7:30-8:00am

  • 10:00-11:00am

  • 1-2:00pm

  • 4-5:00pm

If your child is on 3 naps (this is usually anywhere from 4-7.5/8 months):

  • 7:30-8:30am

  • 11-11:30am

  • 1:30-2:30pm

  • 5-5:30pm

If your child is on 2 naps (this is usually anywhere from 6-15+ months):

  • 7:30-8:45/9:00am

  • 12:00-1:30pm

  • 4:30-5:30pm

If your child is on 1 nap (this is usually anywhere from 13-18+ months):

  • 7:30-11:00am

  • 3:00-5:30pm
